According to reports, Miami Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel, despite not being the strongest man in the locker room, surprised star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with a recent show of strength. Upon learning that Tagovailoa had agreed to a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension on Friday, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound McDaniel hugged and lifted the 6-1, 227-pound quarterback off the ground. McDaniel shared, “It was a cool moment to say the least. I’m of unassuming stature but when I get enough adrenaline and I’m pretty excited, I can surprise some people with my leverage and my strength. And my hug surprised him because he spilled his coffee.” The moment, though unplanned, was memorable for both. Tagovailoa’s new contract is the largest in Dolphins’ history, with increased expectations that McDaniel believes Tagovailoa will rise to. Tagovailoa, who led the NFL in passing yards in 2023, has shown promise throughout the off-season. The Dolphins will open their season at home on Sept. 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. –Field Level Media
