Alabama’s quarterback Jalen Milroe and Georgia’s Carson Beck are two of the five returning semifinalists named on the 2024 Maxwell Award Watch List for outstanding college football players. The list consists of 80 players and was released by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday. The list includes three other 2023 semifinalists: Liberty’s QB Kaidon Salter, Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III, and Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II. Miami and Ohio State have the most candidates with three each. The Atlantic Coast Conference leads with 20 candidates, followed by the Southeastern Conference with 15, Big 12 with 15, and Big Ten with 12. The semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 12, followed by the unveiling of the three finalists on Nov. 26. The winner of the 88th Maxwell Award will be revealed on Dec. 12 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The Maxwell Award, first awarded in 1937, was won by Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. in 2023.
