BILLINGS — Expect warmer temperatures on Monday with highs in the low to mid 90s due to downslope flow. There is a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, mainly in the Beartooths and Absarokas. The combination of hot temperatures, low humidity (10-20%), and gusty winds (up to 30 mph) raises concerns for fire weather.
Hazy skies from wildfire smoke will linger through Tuesday afternoon, so individuals with respiratory issues should monitor air quality before going outside.
Tuesday will be dry initially, but a cold front moving through Tuesday night will bring a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Some storms may have strong winds as the main threat. Highs will range from the 70s in the west to the mid-to-upper 90s in the east.
High pressure will dominate on Wednesday, leading to mainly dry conditions. Highs will be more typical, mostly in the mid-to-upper 80s.
Extreme heat will return starting Thursday and continue through the weekend, with highs ranging from the mid 90s to low 100s and minimal rain in the forecast.
Outlooks indicate that August will have warmer and drier conditions than usual.
