Jon Stewart offers a suggestion to Republicans who are upset about President Joe Biden dropping out of the election race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris: “You can replace your old guy, too.”
The host began Monday’s (July 29) episode of The Daily Show, his first since Biden officially withdrew from the race, by showing clips of politicians and conservative commentators criticizing the Democrats for switching candidates at this stage.
“But I get it. If I thought I had this in the bag and was going up against Old Joe Biden, then they make this change, I’d be like, ‘Ref, ref, open your eyes. How can you not see they’re coup-ing! They’re coup-ing!'” Stewart joked.
He continued, “But I do understand why they’re upset. So, let’s make it fair. I’m a fair person, you can replace your old guy too.”
Biden, 81, officially withdrew from the election race on July 21 after facing criticism from politicians in his own party questioning his health and cognitive abilities due to his age. Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, is 78. Harris will turn 60 in October.
Stewart also discussed Trump’s Truth Social posts, where he suggested the Republican party should be reimbursed for their campaign against Biden.
“What’s done is done,” Stewart said. “You’ll need to come up with a new line of attack now that you can’t use crooked Joe and sleepy Joe anymore.”
Stewart also addressed a comment from Trump claiming Harris “doesn’t like Jewish people.” He pointed out that Harris’ husband is Jewish.
Of course, Stewart couldn’t resist taking a jab at Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance and the rumors surrounding him being intimate with a couch.
