Marvel Studios made a grand return to San Diego Comic-Con featuring dancing Deadpool variants and a choir. The panel unveiled news about the next two “Avengers” films and surprise guests like Harrison Ford and Robert Downey Jr.
Downey will return to Marvel’s movies, but not as Iron Man. He will portray the villain Victor Von Doom, or Doctor Doom, in at least one of the upcoming “Avengers” movies. The Russo brothers, who will direct the film, described Downey’s involvement as proof of the vast possibilities in the Marvel multi-universe.
The panel started with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announcing that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has surpassed $30 billion in box-office earnings. A choir performed Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” before Feige’s speech.
Feige also revealed the titles of the next two “Avengers” movies – “Avengers: Secret Wars” and “Avengers: Doomsday.” The latter is set to release in 2026.
The panel showcased the cast of “Captain America: Brave New World” and the upcoming film’s details. Harrison Ford’s character, President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, was highlighted along with the transformation into Red Hulk.
Other surprises included a sneak peek at “Thunderbolts” and “The Fantastic Four.” The latter is set to begin filming in London and release in July 2025.
The session did not mention Jonathan Majors, who was previously part of Marvel’s plans but was fired after a conviction for assault.
Marvel’s presence at Comic-Con generated immense excitement, especially after the success of “Deadpool & Wolverine” at the box office.
The thrilling panel marked Marvel’s resurgence and teased exciting future projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
