Marvel Studios made a triumphant return to San Diego Comic-Con, featuring dancing Deadpool variants and a choir. The panel included updates on the next two “Avengers” films and surprise appearances by Harrison Ford and Robert Downey Jr.
Downey will be back in the Marvel universe, but this time as the villain Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, in one of the upcoming “Avengers” movies. Wearing Dr. Doom’s mask and green cloak, Downey declared, “New mask, same task,” to cheers from the crowd.
The Russo brothers, set to direct the movie featuring Downey, praised his involvement as proof of the limitless possibilities within the Marvel multi-universe.
The panel concluded with a thrilling announcement about the next two “Avengers” films, titled “Avengers: Secret Wars” and “Avengers: Doomsday,” with the latter slated for a 2026 release.
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, kicked off the event by celebrating the MCU’s box office success, surpassing $30 billion in earnings. A choir even performed Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” before Feige addressed the audience.
Additional surprises included Harrison Ford’s role in the upcoming “Captain America” film, as well as the film “Thunderbolts” featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and more. “The Fantastic Four” reboot was also announced with a star-studded cast.
Despite the excitement, there was no mention of Jonathan Majors, who was recently let go by Marvel after legal troubles. The event ultimately highlighted the ongoing success and expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
