On Tuesday, Democratic National Committee officials announced that Kamala Harris was the sole candidate to meet the qualifications for the Democratic presidential ballot. The virtual roll call to officially nominate Harris as the Democratic candidate will commence on Thursday, August 1, and conclude on Monday, August 5.
“Democratic delegates from all over the country have overwhelmingly voiced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party,” stated DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNCC Chair Minyon Moore. “Our delegates have a significant responsibility and opportunity in the coming days to cast their historic ballots for Vice President Harris, ensuring her presence on the ballot in every state come November.”
A total of 3,923 delegates petitioned for Harris to be on the ballot, with 99% of participating delegates backing her candidacy. However, no other candidates managed to gather the necessary 300 delegate signatures to qualify for the nomination ballot.
The DNC has scheduled an electronic roll call to begin at 9:00 AM ET on August 1 and end at 6:00 PM ET on August 5. Since Harris already has the support of a majority of pledged and automatic delegates, their votes will be counted on the initial ballot.
