Vice President and presumptive presidential nominee Kamala Harris energized supporters in Atlanta on Tuesday, delivering a renewed message for the Democratic presidential campaign in the battleground state of Georgia.
Over 10,000 people packed the Georgia State arena to listen to Harris discuss key issues such as immigration, the economy, and civil rights. Drawing on her background as a prosecutor, she emphasized her familiarity with individuals like Donald Trump throughout her career.
She highlighted her track record in prosecuting cases involving fraud and sexual abuse, similar to recent legal actions against Trump. Harris also contrasted her experience combating drug trafficking with Trump’s alleged hindrance of a bipartisan border security bill.
Pledging to prioritize building up the middle class, Harris promised to tackle rising costs of living, including hidden fees, rent hikes, and prescription drug prices. She also vowed to introduce new protections for voting rights, reproductive freedoms, and address gun violence.
Additionally, Harris called on Trump to commit to a pre-election debate, emphasizing the importance of confronting issues face-to-face.
Georgia in play
Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon noted the focus on key states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, but highlighted Georgia as an opportunity to engage new voters, especially from diverse communities.
In the 2020 election, Joe Biden narrowly won Georgia by a small margin. Trump and multiple co-defendants face legal action for attempting to overturn the results.
Trump announced plans for a rally in the same arena on Saturday.
