President Biden is set to deliver a primetime address on the first night of the Democratic National Convention, according to multiple reports.
This marks a significant change from previous plans, as Biden was originally expected to close the convention by accepting the Democratic presidential nomination. However, with his withdrawal from the race, the convention organizers have had to make adjustments.
Now, the evening of Aug. 19 is anticipated to feature tributes to the former president, as well as symbolizing the passing of the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris as she begins her presidential campaign.

On Tuesday, DNC officials announced that Harris was the sole candidate to qualify for the Democratic presidential ballot after President Biden’s departure. A virtual roll-call will take place from Aug. 1 to Aug. 5 to officially nominate her as the party’s candidate.
She is expected to deliver a formal acceptance speech as the nominee on the final night of the DNC, Aug. 22. Additionally, the announcement of her running mate is eagerly awaited, with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg being considered as top contenders. Harris is likely to reveal her choice early next week, and the running mate will also speak at the DNC on Aug. 21.
Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, along with Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff and potentially former first ladies, are expected to address the four-day convention, as reported by CNN.
The DNC will be held at Chicago’s United Center with over 50,000 attendees.
