It appears that Chicago P.D. has found a replacement for Upton in actress Toya Turner.
A recent report from TV Line stated that Turner is set to join the cast of the NBC Dick Wolf procedural as a series regular in Season 12.
Turner has previously appeared in guest roles on Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, but this marks her first regular role in the One Chicago franchise.
This casting news comes following Tracy Spiridakos’ departure as Hailey Upton in the Season 11 finale.
The executive producer, Gwen Sigan, mentioned in an interview with TV Insider that Upton’s fate is left open-ended for interpretation, leaving room for potential future appearances: “I don’t know if we’ll see her next season. I think we will always keep that door open. We will never say never. And yeah, if the opportunity arises to bring her back in some context over the next years, we’d be happy to.”
For now, it seems Turner will be a more permanent addition to the Intelligence roster.
Turner is also recognized for her roles in Warrior Nun and New Amsterdam.
