The Minnesota Vikings have suffered another setback at the tight end position. Robert Tonyan had to leave Thursday’s practice on a cart due to a back injury, as confirmed by coach Kevin O’Connell. O’Connell told reporters on Friday that Tonyan was dealing with a back spasm and will need to work through a lower-back issue. The team is hopeful that Tonyan will be able to return soon, with a focus on getting him ready for the Vikings’ upcoming exhibition games. With T.J. Hockenson already sidelined due to an ACL tear suffered last season, the Vikings are facing challenges at the tight end position. Tonyan, who joined the Vikings this offseason after a stint with the Chicago Bears, will be an important piece of the team’s offense. In addition to Tonyan, other tight ends vying for roles on the team include Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt, Nick Muse, Sammis Reyes, N’Keal Harry, and rookie Trey Knox. The competition at tight end will be fierce as the Vikings prepare for the upcoming season. –Field Level Media
