NEW YORK — Aaron Judge hit his 41st home run, extending his lead as the major league leader, as the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-3 on Saturday.
Anthony Volpe and Trent Grisham also hit two-run homers off José Berríos to support Carlos Rodón in winning his third consecutive start after previously going 0-5 in his last six.
Juan Soto singled on a 3-0 pitch in the first inning, and Judge followed with a 426-foot home run into the Blue Jays’ bullpen in left-center field, pushing his RBI total to a major league-leading 103.
Judge has hit six home runs in his last eight games. He becomes the fourth Yankee to achieve three or more 40-homer seasons, joining Babe Ruth (11), Lou Gehrig (five), and Mickey Mantle (four). His 16 first-inning home runs tie Ruth (1927) for the single-season record in the franchise.
TIGERS 6, ROYALS 5 (11): Wenceel Pérez singled with two outs in the 11th inning to help Detroit stage multiple comebacks and defeat the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers were behind in the ninth, 10th, and 11th innings but managed to pull off the win, snapping a five-game losing streak.
