HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Facing the need to secure battleground Pennsylvania, Vice President Kamala Harris is now stating she does not oppose fracking, a position that Republican Donald Trump is using to sway voters in a state where the natural gas industry is key to employment.
In his recent appearance in Pennsylvania, Trump spoke out against Harris, claiming she would ban fracking and harm the economy in the state. Harris had previously held this position in 2019 as a presidential primary candidate.
Despite Trump’s claims, Harris’ campaign has clarified that she does not intend to ban fracking and accused Trump of trying to divert attention from his own agenda benefiting oil and gas executives at the expense of the middle class.
Trump criticized Harris’ support for a Democratic resolution for a “Green New Deal” and has stressed the importance of the natural gas industry in Pennsylvania.
While Harris is considering selecting Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as her running mate, Trump is putting in efforts to secure the swing state. The debate surrounding fracking in Pennsylvania continues to be prominent in political discussions.
Both parties are using the issue to appeal to different voter groups while addressing climate policies and the energy sector. The outcome of these discussions could have significant implications for the state’s political landscape.
