Despite recent reports of a decline in sales, McDonald’s maintained its position as the top quick-service restaurant chain in the U.S., as stated in a new report by QSR Magazine. The data covers restaurant sales from March to May 2024.
Despite a 0.7% drop in comparable sales in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, McDonald’s stayed ahead of competitors like Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, and Taco Bell. The company’s strategy included offering a $5 value meal at most locations over the summer to attract customers affected by rising prices.

While McDonald’s maintained its top position in the 2024 rankings, other competitors faced challenges. Starbucks, for example, reported a 2% decline in North American sales for the recent quarter compared to 2023, as it implemented operational improvements and technology upgrades.
