A wildfire is currently burning in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, leading to the closure of several trails in the area.
The Pentagon Fire, caused by lightning, was discovered on August 2 and has already consumed 62 acres of land.
This fire is situated between Lime and Wall Creeks, roughly 18 miles from the Spotted Bear Ranger Station.
Crews are actively placing informational signs along the affected trails and guiding hikers towards alternative routes.
Additionally, a special fire crew has been deployed to the Pentagon Cabin location, with helicopter support to protect the cabin from the approaching flames.
A helicopter has also been utilized to drop buckets of water to slow down the fire’s spread, especially in anticipation of wet and cool weather conditions on Sunday.
Due to the fire, Trail 83 (Spotted Bear River trail), Trail 173 (Pentagon Creek trail), and Trail 90 (Wall Creek trail) are currently unsafe for travel.
As a workaround, hikers can use alternative routes such as Trail 110 (North Fork Sun River) or Trail 80 (South Fork Flathead River) to bypass the impacted area.
