New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock suffered a severe bone contusion and a strained oblique in the team’s preseason victory over the Detroit Lions on Thursday night, as reported by NFL Network on Friday. Lock is expected to be sidelined for a period of time due to the hip injury, according to the report. Coach Brian Daboll mentioned during a media briefing on Friday that the recovery period “could be longer” than just “a couple of days,” and the team may need to consider adding another quarterback to the roster. Lock, who signed with the Giants as a free agent in March to serve as a backup to starter Daniel Jones, started the game on Thursday but got injured in the first quarter. He completed 4 of 10 passes for 17 yards and threw one interception. Lock also rushed twice for 12 yards before Tommy DeVito replaced him in the Giants’ 14-3 victory. The 27-year-old Lock previously played for the Denver Broncos for three seasons after being selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Missouri. Last season, he played for the Seattle Seahawks, starting two out of the four games he participated in and completing 48 of 76 passes (63.2 percent) for 543 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions with an 81.2 passer rating. Over four seasons, Lock has appeared in 28 games, with a 9-14-0 record as a starter, completing 469 of 786 passes (59.7 percent) for 5,283 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions, with a 79.5 passer rating. –Field Level Media
