PARIS (AP) — U.S. Olympic officials say they will appeal a court ruling that resulted in American gymnast Jordan Chiles being asked to return the bronze medal she won in the Paris Olympics floor exercise. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) voided an on-floor appeal by Chiles’ coach that vaulted her to third, saying the appeal came 4 seconds beyond the 1-minute time limit for scoring inquiries. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) said Saturday night it would respect the court’s decision and elevate Barbosu to third. The International Olympic Committee confirmed the ruling Sunday, announcing that it was reallocating the bronze from last Monday’s women’s floor final to Romanian Ana Barbosu.

Worldwide, it’s now surpassed $1 billion. “Deadpool & Wolverine,” though, was closely followed by “It Ends With Us,” the romance drama starring Lively, which surpassed expectations with a stellar $50 million debut. Together, the films created a kind of family edition of “Barbenheimer,” in which a pair of very different movies thrived in part due to counterprogramming. Only this time, the opposite movies were fronted by one of Hollywood’s most famous couples.
Large desert tortoise rescued from Arizona highway after escaping from ostrich ranch 3 miles away
PICACHO, Ariz. (AP) — State Department of Public Safety troopers recently helped rescue an escaped sulcata tortoise that was attempting to cross Interstate 10 near Picacho. The Arizona Republic reports that a motorist contacted authorities on July 30 to report a tortoise trying to cross the busy highway. The motorist and a DPS trooper managed to get the tortoise off the roadway unharmed and return it to its home — an ostrich ranch 3 miles away.
Browns’ plans for move to new dome stadium hits snag as county backs city’s renovation proposal
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Browns’ proposal to leave the lakefront and play in a new domed stadium in Cleveland’s suburbs has hit a major snag. In a letter sent to team owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam, Cuyahoga County officials said they’re backing a proposed $1.2 billion renovation of the team’s current stadium and are committed to keeping the NFL franchise in downtown Cleveland “for generations to come.” Earlier this week, the team unveiled renderings for a $2.4 billion state-of-the-art stadium and entertainment complex to be built in Brook Park, Ohio. County officials argue a new stadium “does not make fiscal sense” and want the Browns to fix their current home, which opened in 1999. The city has offered $461 million toward that renovation.

PARIS (AP) — The closing ceremony for the Paris Olympics will bring out several stars: Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Red Hot Chili Peppers are scheduled to perform. The all-star lineup will hit the stage as part of the handover to the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Each of the music artists is a California native, including H.E.R., who is expected to sing the U.S. national anthem live at the Stade de France. Los Angeles will host the Olympics for the third time, with previous Games being held there in 1984 and 1932. It will be the first time the city will host the Paralympics.
Harrison Ford, Angela Bassett, Miley Cyrus and more to be honored as Disney Legends at ceremony
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Disney is bestowing  “legends” status to 14 artists who have shaped the company, including Harrison Ford, Angela Bassett and Miley Cyrus. Sunday’s honorees the company says have had a “significant impact” on Disney’s legacy include composer John Williams, Jamie Lee Curtis and Kelly Ripa, among several others. The class of 14 new Disney Legends will be inducted into Disney’s version of the hall of fame in a ceremony Sunday at The Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as a part of the D23 convention. Ryan Seacrest is set to host the evening. Directors James Cameron and James L. Brooks are also being honored.
World Boxing to announce major increase in membership after Paris in its bid to save Olympic boxing
PARIS (AP) — World Boxing expects to expand its membership base to more than 50 national federations in the weeks after the conclusion of the tumultuous Paris Olympics. Boris Van Der Vorst, the president of the organization, tells The Associated Press he is leaving Paris even more confident his sport can pull off “the greatest comeback story ever in the Olympic movement.” World Boxing is an alternative to the Russian-dominated International Boxing Association, which has been banished from the Olympic movement. Boxing is not currently on the program for the 2028 Olympics, and the International Olympic Committee has repeatedly said the sport must find a new governing body to be there.
Canadian b-boy Phil Wizard takes gold in Olympic breaking final
PARIS (AP) — Canadian b-boy Phil Wizard (Philip Kim) took gold in the first Olympic men’s breaking tournament Saturday. Hometown favorite French b-boy Dany Dann won silver, and American b-boy Victor took the bronze after taking out Japanese b-boy Shigekix. “Local hero” Dany Dann, as the emcees referred to him, took the stage each round to rapturous applause, with the crowd chanting “Dany! Dany!” every time he landed a power move. Kim amazed spectators with his powerful moves, quick feet and quirky personality that he synced to the music.
Three German open water swimmers fall ill after Olympic races in the Seine River
PARIS (AP) — Three German swimmers have become ill after competing in the women’s open water race at the Paris Olympics, though it’s not clear if the long-polluted Seine River was responsible for their sickness. The swimmers were not identified in a statement released Saturday by the German Olympic Sports Confederation. But Leonie Beck went on social media to reveal her condition after finishing ninth in the 10-kilometer event. She posted a picture of herself on Instagram giving a thumbs up but looking ill. Beck wrote: “Vomited 9 times yesterday + diarrhea.” The German committee said in its statement that a total of three open water swimmers became ill, two females and one male.
