COLUMBUS – James Orville Larson passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, at his residence in Columbus, MT following a heart attack.
James was born on June 17, 1952, in Billings, MT, to Orville and Violet Larson of Ballantine, MT. He was the middle child of three boys and grew up on the family farm. After graduating from Huntley Project High School, James was part of the Montana FFA’s 1970-71 State Officer Team as 1st Vice President. He went on to pursue a Teaching degree in Vocational Agriculture at MSU Bozeman.
James and Carol met in college and tied the knot on June 15, 1974, in Bigfork, MT. James taught Vo-Ag at various schools and was involved in his community. He was also known for his bible teaching skills and musical talents both at home and in church.
After retiring from teaching, James worked as a GIS Specialist for Stillwater County, followed by roles at Dairyland Seed Company and the Montana Ag Safety Program. He was actively involved in numerous boards and organizations throughout his career.
James and Carol prioritized their church involvement and played a key role in establishing Still Waters Family Worship Center in Columbus.
Known for his love of camping, fishing, and Gospel music, James was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether teaching, serving at church, or spending time with family, James lived a life dedicated to serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and those around him.
James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Larson; sons Ben and Lucas, along with their families. He is also survived by his mother, aunt, brother, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his father, brother, grandparents, and several relatives.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at New Life Church in Billings, MT, followed by a reception and graveside service.
