Proving that surpassing Paris is not a mission impossible, Los Angeles showcased a skydiving Tom Cruise, Grammy winner Billie Eilish, and other celebrities on Sunday as it assumed Olympic hosting duties for 2028 from the French capital. Paris had just concluded its 2024 Games with joy and flair.
The closing ceremony marked the end of two and a half remarkable weeks of Olympic sports and emotions with a lively, star-studded show in France’s national stadium. The event combined exuberant celebrations with a solemn call for peace from IOC President Thomas Bach.

Following in the footsteps of Paris presents a challenge, given its spectacular use of city landmarks for the Games. However, Los Angeles displayed its own unique charm, reminiscent of Paris.
Cruise, embodying his Ethan Hunt character, captivated the audience by descending from the stadium’s top to the tune of electric guitar riffs from “Mission Impossible.” After mingling with thrilled athletes, he received the Olympic flag from gymnast Simone Biles, attached it to a motorcycle, and zoomed out of the arena.
The message was clear: Los Angeles 2028 is set to be equally captivating. However, the spotlight remained on Paris during the final celebration.
“These were sensational Olympic Games from start to finish,” said Bach.
