The Importance of Lahaina’s Banyan Tree
Although the banyan tree on Maui is not native to Hawaii, it holds historical significance as the oldest living banyan tree on the island. Given as a gift from India in 1873, the tree commemorated the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the first Protestant missionaries in Lahaina.
