Officers discovered four individuals who had been shot on the Virginia State University campus shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
Chesterfield County Police announced in a press release that the victims were found on Boisseau Street at around 12:30 a.m. following a report of gunshots.
All four victims are expected to recover from their non-life-threatening injuries.
“It has been determined that none of the victims are currently enrolled for the fall 2024 semester. Additionally, no officers fired their weapons during the incident,” stated the police.
Detectives have identified multiple suspects and charges are pending.
The campus was temporarily closed to the public after the shooting but reopened five hours later.
“There is no ongoing threat to the VSU community related to this incident,” assured the police.
Scripps News Richmond observed officers cordoning off the crime scene near Daniel Gymnasium.
Detectives were spotted gathering evidence in paper bags nearly six hours after the shooting occurred.
Details regarding the motive for the shooting or the events leading up to it have not been disclosed.
