Police officers discovered four individuals who had been shot on the campus of Virginia State University just past midnight on Wednesday.
Chesterfield County Police, in a press release, stated that the four victims were located on Boisseau Street around 12:30 a.m. following a report of gunfire.
All of the victims are expected to recover from their non-life-threatening injuries.
“The current investigation indicates that none of the victims were enrolled for the fall 2024 semester. It is important to note that no officers discharged their firearms during this incident,” according to police.
Detectives have identified multiple suspects, and charges are forthcoming.
The campus was closed to the public after the shooting but reopened roughly five hours later.
“There is no ongoing threat to the VSU community regarding this incident,” police confirmed.
Reporters from Scripps News Richmond witnessed police officers cordoning off the parking lot near Daniel Gymnasium with crime scene tape.
Detectives were observed gathering evidence in paper bags nearly six hours after the shooting took place.
No details about the circumstances leading to the shooting or the crime itself were disclosed.
