Minnesota Gov. and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz has agreed to participate in a debate with his counterpart JD Vance that will be broadcast on CBS News.
Walz announced on X his willingness to debate Vance on Wednesday.
“Harris for President has confirmed CBS’ invitation for a Vice Presidential Candidate Debate on October 1,” a campaign statement obtained by Scripps News read. “Governor Walz is prepared to debate JD Vance – provided he attends.”
Vance and Donald Trump’s campaign have not yet responded to the debate invitation.
CBS News had suggested four potential dates for the debate: September 17, September 24, October 1, and October 8. Initially, the network had invited campaigns to participate in a VP debate earlier in the year, but plans were delayed after Trump’s campaign wanted to wait until after the Democratic National Convention starting on August 19 to confirm their participation.
