Wisconsin’s quarterback competition was won by Tyler Van Dyke, as announced by offensive coordinator Phil Longo on Wednesday. Van Dyke, hailing from the Class of 2020, brings experience to the team as they enter a new era of the Big Ten under head coach Luke Fickell. Van Dyke initially started his college career at Miami and later entered the transfer portal on Nov. 27, ultimately committing to the Badgers on Dec. 12. During his time at Miami, Van Dyke served as the primary starter for three seasons, with his best year being in 2021. During the 2023 season, he completed 65.8% of his passes for 2,703 yards and 19 touchdowns, but also threw a career-high 12 interceptions. His competition at Wisconsin, redshirt sophomore Braedyn Locke, threw for 777 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception in five games last season. The Badgers are gearing up for a challenging schedule in the upcoming season, including games against Southern California and Oregon, both newcomers to the Big Ten. Their season opener is set for Aug. 30 at home against Western Michigan. –Field Level Media
