A new round of cease-fire talks is currently taking place in Doha, Qatar. The goal is to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas to end the war in Gaza, secure the release of hostages, and prevent any retaliatory strike from Iran or its proxies.
Hezbollah, a proxy of Iran, has an extensive underground logistics network that it could use to support itself in case of conflict. Israeli analysts believe Hezbollah’s tunnel network is even larger than Hamas’s and could help maintain supply routes from Iraq and Syria during a full-scale war.
The Israeli Defense Forces released videos showing the size of these tunnels, which are large enough for vehicles to pass through. This tunnel network would make it challenging to preemptively target Hezbollah’s arsenal of rockets and missiles, estimated to be around 150,000 weapons.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies describes Hezbollah as the most heavily armed non-state actor globally, with significant preparation for potential conflicts supported by Iran, Syria, and Russia.
Anticipated Iranian Attack
White House national security spokesman John Kirby stated to Scripps News that U.S. officials believe Iran is planning a retaliatory attack against Israel. However, there is uncertainty about the timing and nature of such an attack.
“We’re prepared for any potential attack from Iran, as they continue to pose a threat. We are closely monitoring the situation and engaged in intense diplomacy to de-escalate tensions,” Kirby added.
