Minnesota Gov. and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz has agreed to participate in a debate with his counterpart JD Vance, which will be broadcast on CBS News.
Walz made the announcement on X on Wednesday, inviting Vance to the debate.
“Harris for President has accepted CBS’ invitation to a Vice Presidential Candidate Debate on October 1,” a campaign statement obtained by Scripps News said. “Governor Walz is looking forward to debating JD Vance — provided he attends.”
As of now, Vance and Donald Trump’s campaign have not responded to the invitation.
CBS News has proposed four dates for the debate: Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, and Oct. 8. Initially, campaigns were invited to a VP debate earlier in the year, but plans were delayed when Trump’s campaign expressed a desire to wait until after the Democratic National Convention, which begins on Aug. 19.
