Vice President Kamala Harris has been working tirelessly to build a network of donors and volunteers, vet potential running mates, solidify policy positions, and articulate her vision for her administration in a short amount of time.
She will have the opportunity to present her vision at the Democratic National Convention next week in Chicago. Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., praised Harris for already showcasing her vision to the American people.
“Kamala Harris is highlighting her achievements in her own words, discussing the initiatives she has spearheaded and the impactful work she has done while traversing the country, receiving enthusiastic responses from the public,” Underwood commented.
The DNC will feature prominent party leaders, including current and former figures. President Joe Biden is set to deliver a keynote address on Monday night, with appearances expected from former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson emphasized the significance of unity displayed through the presence of political luminaries at the convention, contrasting it with the divisive tone of the recent Republican National Convention.
The Democratic Party is embracing modern technology and social media, streaming convention content on various platforms such as Amazon Prime and TikTok. Over 200 “content creators” have received credentials to broaden the reach of DNC content to a younger audience.
Underwood, one of the youngest members of Congress, highlighted the importance of young voters in shaping the outcome of the election, focusing on issues like healthcare and reproductive rights.
She is slated to address the DNC, spotlighting the healthcare advancements achieved under the Biden-Harris administration.
The convention will feature traditional moments, including a ceremonial roll call vote honoring the virtual version held in August. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will formally accept the vice presidential nomination on Wednesday night, followed by Harris delivering her acceptance speech on Thursday night.
