According to sources from Scripps News, Former U.S. Rep. George Santos is expected to plead guilty to multiple counts in his federal fraud case.
Santos, a Republican from New York, is anticipated to make the plea during a court hearing scheduled for Monday on Long Island, as reported by an anonymous source to The Associated Press. The source was unable to disclose the specifics of the plea publicly.
The Associated Press reached out to three lawyers representing Santos for comments, but messages were left unanswered.

The court hearing was set for Monday afternoon after a joint request by prosecutors and Santos’ legal team on Friday. They also secured a delay in specific pre-trial deadlines.
This development comes just ahead of the jury selection scheduled to begin on September 9. Santos had previously pleaded not guilty to various financial crimes, including providing false information to Congress about his financial status, unlawfully collecting unemployment benefits while employed, and using campaign funds for personal expenses like luxury clothing.
The former New York Republican was removed from Congress in December following an ethics inquiry revealing “overwhelming evidence” of his lawbreaking and misuse of his public position for personal gain.
