According to sources at Scripps News, former U.S. Rep. George Santos is set to plead guilty to multiple charges in his federal fraud case.
Santos, a Republican from New York, is expected to make his plea during a court hearing on Long Island scheduled for Monday, as per an anonymous source cited by The Associated Press. The source, who requested anonymity, could not publicly disclose the details of the plea deal.
The Associated Press attempted to reach out to three lawyers representing Santos for comment, but messages were left unanswered.

The court hearing, requested by prosecutors and Santos’ legal team on Friday, was set for Monday afternoon. Additionally, they successfully secured a delay in specific pre-trial deadlines.
This development comes just ahead of the scheduled jury selection starting on September 9. Previously, Santos pled not guilty to various financial crimes, such as providing false information to Congress regarding his finances, fraudulently obtaining unemployment benefits while employed, and misusing campaign funds for personal expenses like luxury clothing.
The expulsion of the New York Republican from Congress in December followed an ethics investigation that uncovered “overwhelming evidence” of his lawbreaking and exploitation of his public position for personal gain.
