New York Giants wide receiver/returner Gunner Olszewski will be sidelined “for a little while,” as reported by NFL Network, due to a groin injury sustained during practice, according to head coach Brian Daboll. Olszewski, aged 27, is anticipated to be out for a period of two to four weeks. He holds the top spot on the depth chart for punt and kick returners, with Isaiah McKenzie serving as the primary backup. In the Giants’ 28-10 preseason defeat to the Houston Texans, McKenzie took over return duties. Olszewski joined the Giants in October after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his time with the Giants, he played in 10 games and returned 23 punts for 273 yards (11.9 average) and scored one touchdown. Throughout his career, spanning 65 games and multiple teams including the New England Patriots, Steelers, and Giants, Olszewski has an 11.9-yard average for punt returns with two touchdowns. He has also returned 41 kickoffs for a 22-yard average. In 2020, while with the Patriots, he was named first-team All-Pro for leading the league in punt return yards and average, scoring a punt return touchdown. Olszewski, who has made four starts as a wide receiver, has accumulated 15 receptions for 180 yards and one touchdown over his career. –Field Level Media
