Reports indicate that Pat Hobbs has stepped down from his role as Rutgers’ athletic director, with Ryan Pisarri taking on the position on an interim basis. Hobbs, who had been the longest-serving active athletic director in the Big Ten since 2015, cited health reasons for his sudden departure in an email to school president Jonathan Holloway. Hobbs had hired Steve Pikiell as the head coach of Rutgers men’s basketball in 2016, leading to the team’s success in making back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, Hobbs was responsible for bringing back Greg Schiano as the football coach, resulting in a winning season in 2021, the team’s first since 2014. In an internal note to the athletic staff, Hobbs expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve with them. Pisarri, who has been with the Rutgers athletic department since 2011 and most recently served as deputy athletic director, will take on the interim role. –Field Level Media
