The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed with edge rusher Randy Gregory, and he is set to be released next week as reported by multiple sources. Gregory was placed on the reserve/did not report list by the Bucs on July 23 when veteran players were required to report for training camp. Throughout the offseason, Gregory has been absent from voluntary workouts, the three-day mandatory minicamp, and the team’s two preseason games this month. His absence has resulted in fines totaling over $1 million. Despite efforts to reach out to Gregory, the reason for his absence remains unknown, with Coach Todd Bowles stating, “You can’t miss what you didn’t have.” Gregory was signed by Tampa Bay as a free agent on April 3 to a one-year, $3 million contract with potential incentives of up to $2 million. In June, Gregory filed a lawsuit against the NFL and the Denver Broncos, alleging discrimination under Colorado law for denying him disability accommodations due to his use of synthetic cannabis, which is banned by the league. Gregory, who has been fined over $530,000 since March 2023 for using synthetic cannabis, claims he requires THC-based medications for his treatment of social anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Last season, Gregory played for the Denver Broncos before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers. He appeared in 12 regular-season games and three playoff games, accruing 2.5 sacks and eight QB hits as the 49ers made it to the Super Bowl LVIII. Throughout his career, Gregory has faced injuries and league suspensions, totaling 117 tackles, 22 sacks, 69 QB hits, 10 forced fumbles, one interception, and two fumble recoveries. He was initially selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. –Field Level Media
