1. How remarkable is it that the Billings Scarlets became the first Montana team in 62 years to make the American Legion Baseball World Series?
John Letasky: The Scarlets’ achievement is truly exceptional. The atmosphere at Dehler Park was electrifying, starting with an extra-inning victory in the first game, leading to the historic Game 2 win by the Scarlets. It will be hard to surpass this moment.
Lindsay Rossmiller: It’s satisfying to see a streak broken.
Jeff Welsch: It’s astonishing that no Montana team had made it in 62 years. Somewhere, Dave McNally is surely smiling.
Daniel Shepard: Adam Hust’s confidence at the state tournament proved to be right. I hope the team enjoys their time in North Carolina. Fellas, make sure to try the Bojangles chicken.

Briar Napier: The Scarlets’ journey, from losing on the first day to winning five in a row, including two on Sunday, was the most impressive part. Keep an eye on them in North Carolina.
2. Were you impressed by the Montana Olympians’ performances?
John Letasky: How could one not be impressed, as just qualifying for the Olympics is a fantastic accomplishment. To see athletes like Brady Ellison and Katharine Berkoff each win two medals is incredible.
Lindsay Rossmiller: Simply reaching that stage is impressive, regardless of the medal outcomes. I read in a Washington Post article that Montana tied Alaska for the state with the most medals per capita in Paris.
Jeff Welsch: Overcoming our inherent disadvantages here makes every Olympic moment even more impressive.
Daniel Shepard: It’s impressive how Montana exceeds expectations population-wise in producing Olympians, even if it did disrupt my NASCAR viewing for a couple of weeks.
Briar Napier: Without a doubt, especially Berkoff’s performances in one of the most competitive and pressure-filled events at the Olympics, swimming.
3. What did you think of the Associated Press preseason college football poll?
John Letasky: Georgia being No. 1 didn’t surprise me, but I didn’t scrutinize the poll as closely as in recent years. I hope to see some of my favorites near the top by the end of the year.
Lindsay Rossmiller: I haven’t delved deeply into it because I know that preseason rankings don’t actually affect outcomes. I did hear that the Ducks are ranked in the top three.
Jeff Welsch: I’m withholding support for major college football until the NCAA addresses Michigan’s three-year cheating scandal, which has greatly diminished my faith in the game’s integrity.
Daniel Shepard: I’m more concerned about the NAIA poll releasing on Monday. Two Frontier Conference teams will likely make the top 10, with another two in the top 25.
Briar Napier: My Missouri Tigers are ranked No. 11! If you’re not familiar with Luther Burden III by now, you should be.
4. Are you a fan of Colorado coach Deion Sanders and his lively coaching style at the Buffaloes?
John Letasky: I don’t mind and actually appreciate Coach Prime’s energy. Coaching methods have evolved, and Sanders has injected some excitement back into the game.
Lindsay Rossmiller: I wouldn’t use “animated” to describe his methods. Let’s just say it’s not my preference.
Jeff Welsch: I admire him as a personality and athlete, but I have a feeling that Colorado will descend into chaos sooner rather than later, especially when his kid completes his eligibility.
Daniel Shepard: At least he’s not dull. Winning, however, is essential at some point.
Briar Napier: What has he accomplished at CU to warrant such arrogance? A North Dakota State victory in Boulder during Week 1 would be delightful.
5. What is your favorite summertime fruit or vegetable?
John Letasky: I adore Flathead cherries, thanks to my uncle. And you can’t go wrong with fresh, local sweet corn.
Lindsay Rossmiller: Backyard raspberries freshly picked are my favorite.
Jeff Welsch: Frozen blueberries are my go-to. They’re delicious like a popsicle, and I can feel the antioxidants flowing through my veins.
Daniel Shepard: Do Butterfinger Blizzards from DQ count? Probably not, but I need to keep cool in my air condition-less house somehow.
Briar Napier: Letasky introduced me to Flathead cherries a couple of weeks ago, which were delicious, but strawberries remain my favorite summer choice.
