BILLINGS — The Billings Scarlets’ American Legion World Series pool play game against Bossier City (Louisiana) on Saturday was suspended in the third inning due to inclement weather, with play scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The game was tied at 0-0 with one out in the top of the third inning and the Scarlets’ Nolan Berkram batting when the delay began.

Rainfall at Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, North Carolina started in the second inning and shortly after became more intense and accompanied with severe thunderstorms. The game’s original 5:30 p.m. start was additionally delayed by 18 minutes due to lightning in the area.
The Scarlets, who won the Northwest regional championship earlier this month to become Montana’s first team at the ALWS since 1962, will now be playing two games in the event Sunday as they are slated to finish out pool play against Midland (Michigan) at 11 a.m., right after their game against Louisiana finishes. Both games will be streamed on WatchESPN/ESPN3.

Billings was defeated 6-1 in its ALWS opener to Wilmington (Delaware) on Thursday, meaning that two wins Sunday would be its simplest path to finishing in the top two of its four-team pool and advancing to the ALWS semifinals Monday.
Shortstop Kyler Northrop had the Scarlets’ only hit of the game, a single, at the time of the delay, while starting pitcher Drew McDowell — who threw a no-hitter in his last start at the regional — retired the first six Louisiana batters he faced.
