Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention marks President Joe Biden’s support for Vice President Kamala Harris, after dropping out of the presidential election a month ago.
President Biden is set to be the featured speaker on Monday at the convention, following his endorsement of Harris. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also speak on Monday.
Later in the week, speakers like former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former first lady Michelle Obama, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will address the convention. Vice presidential nominee Tim Walz will deliver the keynote speech on Wednesday, and Harris will give her acceptance speech on Thursday.
The Democratic Party’s platform, a 91-page document outlining priorities for a potential Harris presidency, will be voted on by thousands of delegates this week.
As Democrats gather, Republicans are countering with accusations against President Biden, claiming he engaged in “impeachable conduct.” Trump and his running mate JD Vance will continue their presidential campaign with a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday.
