EVERGREEN β The sidewalks in Evergreen are still under construction, but soon children will have a safe path to school this year.
The installation of sidewalks around the Evergreen School District is crucial as the district is small and does not provide school buses, forcing children to walk along busy Highway 2 to reach school.
After a long wait, sidewalks are finally being built thanks to local laws and the collaborative efforts of community members.
Originally scheduled to be completed before the start of the school year, weather delays have caused a setback, with two to three weeks of work still remaining. However, they are expected to be finished shortly after school begins, providing a safe route for children for most of the year.
βItβs heartwarming to see various partners come together for the benefit of our small community in this grassroots initiative. It truly embodies what the Evergreen community stands for β ensuring our children have secure pathways to school,β expressed Evergreen School District Superintendent Laurie Barron.
βWe are thrilled to witness children using the sidewalks, especially during this beautiful time of year. Many kids walk to school at this time, so it will be wonderful to see them utilizing the path and having a safer journey to school,β Barron added.
