A 57-year-old White Sulphur Springs man died late Sunday when he was ejected from his vehicle after it went airborne off an embankment, officials said.
The crash was reported 10:55 p.m. on U.S. Highway 12 at mile marker 58 near Checkerboard, the Montana Highway Patrol said Monday. The man was eastbound in a Toyota Tercel when he crossed the centerline and hit a delineator post on the left side of the road.
He overcorrected and went off a steep embankment on the right side of the road. The vehicle went airborne and landed in a ditch, the MHP said. The driver was ejected and caught fire.
He died from his injuries suffered in the crash, authorities said.
The man was not wearing a seat belt and alcohol is suspected, the MHP said.
