Maalik Murphy has been named as the starting quarterback for Duke as they kick off their season against Elon on Aug. 30. Murphy, who is a redshirt sophomore, made the move from Texas, where he appeared in seven games and started two in 2023. During his time as a redshirt freshman, Murphy completed 40 of 71 passes for 477 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. Despite strong competition, Murphy managed to secure the starting position over Grayson Loftis, the returning starter and sophomore. Loftis had a record of 91-for-163 passing for 1,006 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions in eight games in 2023, when he stepped in for the injured Riley Leonard. Duke has been predicted to finish 11th out of 17 teams in the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference preseason media poll. –Field Level Media
