KALISPELL — A high school soccer player is in the Intensive Care Unit and another player and a coach are in the hospital after a lightning strike hit the three people on Monday evening at Glacier High School in Kalispell.
Glacier High principal Brad Holloway shared details of the incident on Facebook on Monday.
“I am reaching out to share with you information regarding an emergency that occurred earlier this evening at Glacier,” Holloway wrote. “Just before 6 p.m. this evening there was a lightning strike that occurred on the soccer field and involved two of our soccer players and one of our coaches. (Emergency Medical Services, Kalispell Police Department), and members of the GHS staff responded and all three were transported to Logan Health. One of the players and the coach are responsive and remain at Logan Health for further evaluation. The other player is currently receiving care in the ICU.”

Holloway said he and his staff are in contact with the families of all involved and will provide updates accordingly.
“We are thankful for the first responder professionals for their immediate response and ask you to keep all those involved in your thoughts and prayers,” he said.
Glacier High School athletic director Mark Dennehy was not immediately available for comment, but he told the MTN News television station that the school delayed soccer practice for 30 minutes after the last visual confirmation of lightning, per the school’s safety protocol.
