Former President Donald Trump visited the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan on Tuesday to speak with his supporters about his law enforcement and criminal justice policies.
During his nearly hour-long speech, Trump emphasized his administration’s history of supporting law enforcement and outlined his plans to address violent crime in the United States.
He pledged to make a substantial investment in the hiring, retention, and training of police officers, stating, “I will deliver law, order, safety, and peace, and I will protect those who protect us.”
Trump and his campaign have been critical of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, accusing them of being soft on crime. Florida Rep. Byron Donalds claimed that Harris’ policies have allowed criminals to reoffend easily.
Trump also claimed that violent crime had increased by 43% under Harris’ administration, citing a Department of Justice report as evidence. However, the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System, which is commonly used to measure nationwide crime rates, presents different findings.
