Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude to the delegates who voted for her and Tim Walz to represent the Democratic presidential ticket at the Democratic National Convention. The ceremonial roll call, which featured rapper Lil Jon, was filled with excitement as delegates from all over cast their votes for Harris and Walz virtually.
Traditionally, nominations were conducted in person at the party convention, but this year’s virtual format did not dampen the enthusiasm of the event. Each delegation delivered remarks as they pledged their support for Harris and Walz as the Democratic nominees.
Alabama kicked off the roll call by acknowledging President Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware, a nod to his legacy that was highlighted during the convention. Rapper Lil Jon energized the audience by performing “Turn Down For What” while introducing the Georgia delegates.
New York’s roll call featured filmmaker Spike Lee and Gov. Kathy Hochul supporting Harris and Walz. Notable figures like Gov. Andy Beshear, Gov. Andy Shapiro, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Gov. J.B. Pritzker were also present at the event.
The roll call culminated with California, where Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi represented Harris’ home state. Despite her absence, Harris addressed the delegates virtually, emphasizing the importance of fighting for the future and contrasting their vision with that of the past.
“This is about two very different visions for our nation,” Harris proclaimed. “Our focus is on the future, while the alternative is rooted in the past. We fight for the future.”
