Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude to the delegates who supported her and Tim Walz as the Democratic presidential ticket during a lively ceremonial roll call at the Democratic National Convention.
In the past, nominations took place in person at the party convention. However, this year, Democrats voted virtually, making Tuesday’s roll call more ceremonial. Nevertheless, the excitement was palpable as all delegations gave remarks and cast their votes for Harris and Walz as the Democratic nominees.
During the roll call, a DJ played music representing each delegation, starting with Alabama throwing to President Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware in recognition of his legacy. Rapper Lil Jon added to the excitement by performing his hit single “Turn Down For What” while introducing the Georgia delegates.
New York’s roll call featured filmmaker Spike Lee and Gov. Kathy Hochul voicing their support for Harris and Walz. Other notable Democratic figures present included Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Gov. Andy Shapiro, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
The roll call concluded with California, represented by Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the home state of Vice President Harris. Although Harris was not physically present, she addressed the DNC delegates virtually, emphasizing the importance of fighting for the future over dwelling on the past.
