A nighttime tour of Washington, D.C.’s, National Mall adds a sense of majesty to an already magnificent place in the United States.
Within walking distance, not far from the Potomac River, are the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial.

There’s something about seeing the monuments lit at night that adds a solemness and seriousness to the features. That seemed especially true for me at the Korean War memorial that features 19 stainless steel statues. It portrays a poncho-clad squad on patrol in harsh weather.
The fountains of the World War II Memorial at the center of an ovular plaza were also stunning. The arched entrances commemorate the different theaters of war. Columns stretch out from the arches representing each U.S. state and territory.
