SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Tens of thousands of customers in Puerto Rico were still without power on Tuesday, a week after Tropical Storm Ernesto passed through the U.S. territory.
At the same time, the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat advisory.
In the afternoon, over 40,000 out of nearly 1.5 million customers were still without power. Officials stated that all schools should have power restored by late Tuesday, and approximately 80% of emergency medical clinics had electricity, excluding hospitals.
By late Tuesday, up to 70,000 customers were at risk of temporary power outages, and on Monday, another 90,000 experienced a manual reduction in power to Puerto Rico’s grid. Authorities promised to have electricity restored to all customers by the weekend.
