Habitat celebrates 6 new homes
Helena Area Habitat for Humanity had a home dedication celebration Thursday for six home builders who recently completed construction and will soon move into their âforever homes.â
The ceremony on Glenfinnan Court in the Highland Meadows subdivision in East Helena honored months of hard work performed by program participants, Habitat staff and volunteers and local subcontractors.
The homes were built through the Mutual Self-Help program, with a grant from the office of Rural Development of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Through the program, participants work as a group to build their own homes and the homes of their neighbors.
Participants move in when all the homes are completed.
âBeing called a âhomeownerâ is like being called the president of the United States,â homeowner Katie Lockett said in a news release. âI feel so accomplished! Telling my kids (about the home) was the best part of it all. They see firsthand how hard I work every day, and they have always been my biggest supporters.â
