BILLINGS — Tuesday night’s presidential debate began with a handshake between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, attracting over 57 million viewers as they faced off for the first, and possibly only, time.
MTN News visited downtown Billings to interview voters on how the debate may influence their voting decisions come election time.
Roundup resident Jeff Radhs stated that he plans to vote for Trump, but he expressed dissatisfaction with Trump’s debate performance. “We’re in agriculture, so we lean conservative, and Trump just needs to watch his words. I’m not a big fan of Harris either. I wish we had better choices. I’m just not happy with either option,” Radhs remarked.
Kat Porco shared that she will be casting her vote for Kamala Harris on Election Day, which falls on November 5th. “I was raised in Montana, with values like honesty, integrity, and social justice instilled in me. I saw those qualities in one candidate, not the other,” Porco explained. “There are moments of inspiration but also moments of feeling defeated and saddened by the current state of our culture.”
Traci Calvert, passing through Billings from Alabama, admitted to not watching much of the debate but catching up on it the following morning. She disclosed her plans to vote for Trump, although she wished there was a better option. “I don’t particularly like either candidate. It’s like choosing the lesser of two evils or two candidates I don’t really care for,” Calvert said.
