Carl Fisher holds the Guinness World Record for driving a school bus for 66 consecutive years in Pleasant Oak, Missouri.
John Riley, a school bus driver for Geyser Public School in Montana, has been driving for 57 years without a break and is close to breaking this record in about nine years.
Riley started driving for Geyser school in 1967 at the age of 21 and has continued ever since, now at 80 years old.
In addition to driving the school bus, Riley has been involved in various agricultural activities such as ranching and hay hauling.
Despite his impressive record, Montana does not keep track of the longest-serving school bus drivers, according to state director Donell Rosenthal.
Riley’s friend Wayne Anderson believes Riley may hold a record in Montana for his years of service.
Riley is known for his patience and reliability, often driving sports teams and participating in school events.
Other bus drivers like May Hill and Ken Annala also praise Riley for his dedication and willingness to take on long trips.
Riley’s grandchildren have also benefitted from his services over the years, with some of them participating in high school sports.
Bus drivers must undergo specific training and certifications, including first aid, CPR, and regular health exams, to ensure the safety of passengers.
