Avian enthusiasts try to counter the deadly risk of Chicago high-rises for migrating birds
CHICAGO (AP) — Each fall and spring, volunteers dedicated to rescuing injured birds find hundreds on the streets of Chicago that have crashed into buildings. Some are hurt, many are killed. A stark sign of the risks came last fall, when 1,000 migrating birds died on a single night after flying into the glass exterior of McCormick Place, a convention center on the shore of Lake Michigan. This fall, the facility unveiled new bird-safe window film on one of its glass buildings. Rescue groups and others hope the change will make a difference for the thousands of birds passing through the city.
Elon Musk unveils Tesla’s ‘Cybercab,’ plans to bring autonomous driving tech to other models in 2025
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tesla unveiled its long-awaited robotaxi at a Hollywood studio Thursday night, though fans of the electric vehicle maker will have to wait until at least 2026 before they are available. CEO Elon Musk said the “Cybercab” doesn’t have steering wheels or pedals. Tesla expects the Cybercabs to cost under $30,000. The company also expects to make its Full Self-Driving technology available on its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in Texas and California next year. The unveiling comes as Musk tries to persuade investors that his company is more about artificial intelligence and robotics as it struggles to sell its core products, an aging lineup of once-cutting-edge electric vehicles.

Rafael Nadal gave his all until he simply couldn’t anymore and had to retire: Analysis
Rafael Nadal’s tennis career will be remembered because of the numbers, yes — the 14 French Open trophies, the 22 Grand Slam titles overall, the nearly two decades in the top 10, and so on — and, without a doubt, because of his riveting rivalries with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Also, indelibly, because of the all-out effort and energy he brought to the court every time. So long, that is, as his body allowed. Perhaps not surprisingly, it was his health that eventually forced Nadal to announce his retirement on Thursday after competing only sparingly the past two seasons.
