Harris zeroes in on Black men, while Trump focuses on women as they both aim to motivate key voting blocs
DETROIT (AP) — Both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are making efforts to energize important voter groups that their supporters are concerned about losing. Vice President Harris is targeting Black men, and former President Trump is concentrating on women. Harris will be participating in a town hall event in Detroit on Tuesday hosted by Charlamagne Tha God, who is particularly popular among Black males. Meanwhile, Trump will be attending a town hall on Fox News Channel moderated by host Harris Faulkner, with an all-female audience in Georgia. This demonstrates that in a closely contested race, each side is trying to chip away at the other’s support.
Walz to introduce Harris’ plan for rural voters in an attempt to reduce Trump’s advantage
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz will be unveiling the campaign’s plans to enhance the lives of rural voters as Vice President Kamala Harris seeks to diminish former President Donald Trump’s support. The Harris-Walz plan, to be announced by the governor of Minnesota on Tuesday, includes a focus on improving rural healthcare, including initiatives such as recruiting 10,000 new healthcare professionals in rural and tribal areas through scholarships, loan forgiveness, and new grant programs, as well as economic and agricultural policy priorities. This marks a deliberate effort by the Democratic campaign to make inroads with the historically Trump-leaning voting bloc in the final three weeks leading up to Election Day. In 2020, Trump won over rural voters by nearly a two-to-one margin, according to AP VoteCast.

Migrant deaths in New Mexico increase tenfold
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico authorities are facing a growing number of migrant deaths in the state’s border region, with over 100 remains found in the first eight months of the year. Many of these bodies were discovered just a few miles from the El Paso, Texas port of entry. This represents a more than tenfold increase from the number of probable migrant deaths reported five years ago. The Office of the Medical Investigator, responsible for autopsies in New Mexico, has hired additional investigators to handle the influx. The surge in numbers is attributed to smugglers redirecting migrants into hot, rugged areas of the state.
Canada-India relations may take time to mend
NEW DELHI (AP) — A simmering diplomatic dispute that has strained relations between India and Canada has resurfaced as the two countries have expelled each other’s top diplomats over a year-long disagreement regarding the killing of a Sikh activist in Canada. The recent tit-for-tat expulsions came after Canada accused India’s top diplomat in the country of being a person of interest in the 2023 assassination of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has dismissed the accusations as absurd. Experts believe that this diplomatic standoff will hinder both countries from progressing on other aspects of their once-promising partnership, and will also impact India’s aspirations as it seeks to assert itself as a rising global power.
USDA initiates internal investigation into Boar’s Head outbreak
U.S. Agriculture Department officials have launched an internal investigation into how the agency handled reports of serious issues related to a deadly listeria outbreak at a Boar’s Head deli meat plant in Virginia. Senator Richard Blumenthal has stated that the USDA inspector general is looking into whether federal investigators and state inspectors appropriately responded to numerous reports of problems at the factory. Since May, at least 10 people have died and nearly 50 have been hospitalized after consuming Boar’s Head products, including liverwurst. The Boar’s Head plant in Jarratt was inspected under a program that allows state inspectors to act on behalf of the federal agency. The company shut down the plant in September.
Lowriding transcends cars for US Latinos, embodying family and culture
CHICAGO (AP) — Lowrider enthusiasts believe that the predominantly Latino cultural phenomenon is on the brink of a revival. Originating in Mexican American and Chicano communities, lowriding is a form of expression through elaborate vehicle customization. It is deeply rooted in Latino history in the U.S. and serves as a way for people to showcase pride, honor family, and celebrate culture. Despite misrepresentations of the culture in entertainment and media associating lowriding with gang culture, the interest in lowriding has surged in recent years. This is evident through the increase in car shows and conventions nationwide, with lowriding clubs established across the U.S. and even in Japan.

Revenue from web domain fees for the government quadrupled last year to $32 million due to the growing interest in AI. To keep up with the rapid growth, Anguilla announced on Tuesday that it is partnering with a U.S. company, Identity Digital, to manage domain registrations. The company aims to protect web users from online scammers seeking to exploit the hype surrounding artificial intelligence.
