A draft proposal in Montana could halt the opening of any new marijuana dispensaries in the state.
The proposal was presented to the Economic Affairs Interim Committee and aims to prohibit new licenses until 2027. Existing license holders may have their licenses renewed or sell them to others.
This proposal is still in its early stages and, if approved by the committee, could be introduced in the 2025 legislative session.
Currently, Montana has more than 450 dispensaries listed with the Department of Revenue. The Department’s website indicates that applications for new dispensary licenses will be available starting on 7/1/2025.
